Definitions of Functional Disorders Involving Constipation (table 1)

DYSCHEZIA
symptoms must consist of:

 FUNCTIONAL CONSTIPATION
two or more of:

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME
continuous or recurrent symptoms of:

straining on at least 1/4 of bowel movements;
or
a feeling of incomplete evacuation following at least 1/4 of bowel movements;
or
digital facilitation of defecation on at least 1/4 of the bowel movements; mechanical causes of dyschezia must be excluded

straining at defecation at least 1/4 of the timelumpy and/or hard stools at least 1/4 of the time sensation of incomplete evacuation at least 1/4 of the time two or fewer bowel movements in a week  1. abdominal pain or discomfort that is relived with defecation; and/or associated with a change in frequency of bowel; and/or associated with a change in consistency of stools;
and/or
2. two or more of the following, at least 1/4 of occasions or days: altered stool frequency (>3evac/day or <3evac/week)altered stool form (lumpy/hard or loose/watery stool)altered stool passage (straining, urgency, feeling of incomplete evacuation) passage of mucusbloating or feeling of abdominal distension
